  • Global share markets surged to record highs after the drug companies Pfizer and BioNTech announced that their coronavirus vaccine was 90% effective in trials; S&P 500 index jumped to a record high before retreating to a 1.17% gain; the FTSE 100 rose 4.7%.

  • British drug giants Astrazeneca and Glaxosmithkline are still in the race for a Covid jab; however, Astra dipped 2% after the Pfizer announcement; GSK was 2.1% up; Pfizer jumped 7.7% earlier yesterday.

  • The UK government will issue its first green bonds to fund investment in tackling the climate crisis and aid the recovery from the pandemic, Rishi Sunak has announced.

  • Ocado is facing a second legal claim in as many months over allegations that it stole patents and technology from a Norwegian robotics company.

  • Apple has publicly reprimanded Pegatron, one of its largest suppliers, after it emerged that it employed illegal student labour to assemble iPhones.
