  • Britain will move into the delay phase of the coronavirus outbreak today as the World Health Organisation declared a pandemic, with people to be told to keep their distance. Fresh guidance could come today after Boris Johnson chairs a Cobra meeting to sign off “social distancing” measures.

  • Donald Trump has announced that all travel from Europe to America will be suspended for 30 days but the UK will be exempt, in a major intervention to stop the spread of coronavirus.

  • The UK government is to invest an additional £9.5bn in its affordable homes programme.

  • Spending on UK research and development is set to nearly double to £22bn per year within five years, the Chancellor unveiled in his Budget speech.
