  • US regulators have green light to the first new treatment for Alzheimer’s disease in almost two decades despite controversy over efficacy; the drug has been developed by Biogen.

  • UK retail sales surged in May by the most since the Covid-19 pandemic began as lockdown measures were relaxed; sales increased by 10% compared with the same month in 2019, the British Retail Consortium said.

  • De Beers has raised some rough diamond prices by about 10% as the world’s leading producer cashes in on rising demand from cutters and polishers.

  • Imports into China have grown at their fastest pace in a decade on the back of surging demand for raw materials, but pandemic-related disruptions caused exports to lag behind last month.
